The third "Halie's Rainbow" Halie Hite Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, July 21, at the Oak Ridge Golf Course.

One of the organizers of the event, Shelly Lambert, told The Brazil Times a big crowd is expected again this year.

"Last year's tournament was very busy," Lambert said. "We expect our tournament to be filled again this year. (The event) just sheds a little light on (Halie) to keep her memory alive."

The tournament is played in memory of Halie Hite, who died in a single-vehicle accident Oct. 8, 2009. A member of the Northview Marching Knights, Hite was only 15 when she died.

A shotgun start has been planned for 8:30 a.m.

Cost to participate in the tournament is $50 per person, or $200 per team.

Several prizes -- donated by local businesses and organizations outside of Brazil -- will be available.

For example, Lambert told The Brazil Times prizes include hair products, a goodie bag from Tastefully Simple, Thirty-One products, tickets to a St. Louis Cardinals' ball game, tickets to an Indianapolis Indians ball game and more.

Lambert said the prizes would be raffled off. Cost for tickets are $1 each or 10 for $5.

"You do not have to be a golfer to buy raffle tickets either," Lambert said.

Lambert added a closest-to-the-hole contest would also take place. Cost will be $5 to get in the skill hole and the winner will take half of the pot.

She said there would also be a longest drive contest.

Lunch will be provided during the tournament.

All proceeds from the tournament will go into a scholarship fund in memory of Halie Hite, through the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. The scholarship fund was set up Feb. 20, 2010.

Last year, two scholarships were given out in memory of Halie. The recipients were former Northview Marching Knights drum major Rachel Reese and former NMK member Kyle Rice.

Every year, a $500 scholarship will be given to a Northview band student, winter guard participant or cheerleader in Halie's memory.

Those interested in participating should send their entry forms to Halie's Rainbow, 602 N. Alabama St., Brazil, Ind., 47834.

Contributions to the scholarship fund may be sent to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation, Inc., 2901 Ohio Blvd., Suite 153, Terre Haute, Ind., 47803.
