TERRE HAUTE -- Wayne Newton Post 346 returned home after a long string of tourney contests over the July 4 holiday and came away victorious in the friendly confines of Terre Haute North High School on Tuesday night. Post 346 got shutout pitching from three hurlers in knocking off visiting Crawfordsville Post 72 by a 7-0 score.
West Vigo graduate Scott West shut Post 72 down over his six innings of work, allowing just two hits over his stint before giving way to Northview graduate Kodie Girton for two shutout frames. Pete Lannoo finished the game off with an inning of work to put the final touches on the victory.
Tony Rosselli, a future Sycamore, blasted a three-run home run amongst his three hits and Cody Thornton added a round tripper to provide Post 346 with plenty of room to work with in gaining its 24th win against nine defeats.
Post 346 got the only run it would really need in the first inning as Thornton led off the game with a base hit and came around to score on a double by Rosselli. A four-hit outburst would eventually chase Crawfordsville's starter from the game as Zach Milam singled, Rosselli added a base hit and Sam Wolf lined a shot to right field. Dalton Sexton followed with a double down the leftfield line to extend the Post 346 advantage.
The home stand continued for Post 346 Wednesday night with a game against Sullivan followed by a contest this evening against Washington at 7 p.m.
