TERRE HAUTE -- Wayne Newton Post 346 was able to grind out its second home win of the week on Wednesday by scratching past Sullivan Post 139 by a 5-1 score.
Post 346 was able to post four of its runs thanks to some control issues in the third inning by Sullivan's Ethan Sparks.
Daniel Marlow earned a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jimmy Maxwell. Cody Thornton followed by driving a single to left field for an RBI. Zach Milam came to the plate and drove Thornton home from second base. Tony Rosselli, who provided the big blow in Tuesday's win over Crawfordsville, then walked to load the bases. Colton Rupska followed with an RBI when he drew a walk and Preston Tofaute singled home two runs with a bouncer up the middle.
Wayne Newton added another run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Sam Wolf.
Sullivan brought in Nolan Kinnett in relief to end the third frame and he was able to keep Post 346's hitters off balance to keep his team within striking distance. However, Vincennes University's Bryan Nacke limited Sullivan to just one hit through three innings before giving way to Northview High School graduate TJ Decker, who struck out three and allowed three singles in three innings of work. Terre Haute South's Pete Lanoo finished off the game with three innings of relief work.
Post 346 (25-9) faced Washington on Thursday night before traveling to Princeton and Evansville Pate for doubleheaders during the weekend.
