Officials conclude death investigation

Thursday, July 19, 2012

An autopsy was conducted Thursday morning on the male victim from Wednesday's death investigation at 7851 N. State Road 59, near Brazil.

The preliminary results of the autopsy indicated the 33-year-old man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Toxicology results are pending from the autopsy and could take up to two weeks.

The victim, according to officials, was found deceased on the rear wooden deck of his home around 11:46 p.m., Tuesday, July 17.

According to reports, the Clay County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call from an acquaintance at that time. Officials added the acquaintance said the victim had been "despondent in recent days" and all communications between the two had stopped.

Initial findings revealed he might have suffered a gunshot wound. Clay County Coroner Joel Reinoehl pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The investigation was a joint effort by the Indiana State Police and Clay County Sheriff's Department.

It is a good idea to keep all firearms away from an unstable person's reach. It is too common for a depressed or anxious prone person to inflict harm on themselves or others. Hopefully his loved ones can find a way to endure this tragedy.
