On Thursday, the 16-year-old 4-H'er won the 2012 Clay County 4-H Fair Round Robin Competition. This was the third consecutive year she had competed in the event, but she had never won the competition.
Until this year.
There were a total of six contestants in this year's event. Winners from the Dairy Barn, Beef Barn, Swine Barn, Sheep Barn, Horse Barn and Goat Barn all competed against each other for the title.
Halfhill earned her trip to the Round Robin through the Sheep Barn.
A seven-year 4-H'er, Halfhill said studying was the key to rising above the remaining competition.
"(You study enough) until you feel confident, but there's never too much studying," she said. "I knew what I had to do to win it and I had good people to teach me."
Each barn participant had to show animals from the remaining barns in the competition. Other contestants in Thursday's event included Mitchell Jackson (Dairy), Chaela Minor (Beef), Elise Miller (Swine), Carli Jo Milner (Horse) and Nicole Linton (Goat).
Halfhill also shows beef cattle, swine and horses at the fair.
