Old Settlers Festival scheduled

BOWLING GREEN -- The annual Bowling Green Old Settlers Festival is scheduled to take place Aug. 23-25, in Bowling Green.

The festival will officially kick off Thursday, Aug. 23, with a ribeye dinner, sponsored by the Bowling Green Methodist Church, from 5-9 p.m. The event will take place under the awning at the Bowling Green Community Building.

The meal will include ribeye steak, potatoes, green beans, salad and drink. Cost will be $9.

Desserts will cost an additional $1.

Those attending may purchase a steak sandwich and drink for just $6.

Bingo will be played as well, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the Community Building.

Many prizes will be available, including Longaberger baskets and gifts from Pampered Chef.

Four Fast Bingo Games will be played from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and 10 Bingo games will start at 7.

Stage entertainment for the evening will be a DJ, beginning at 6 p.m.

A Jonah Fish Fry is scheduled to kick off Friday, Aug. 24. The dinner will begin at 4 p.m., and conclude at 8.

Cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children 8-under. Desserts will cost an additional $1.

The heavyweight horse pull will begin at 7:30 p.m. There is no entry fee to participate.

The first-place trophy was donated by Brown and Heffner Equipment.

The Nightingales quartet will perform from 6-7:15 p.m., followed by Chris Anderson, from 7:15-8 p.m. In addition, the Clay City High School Band will perform from 8:15-9 p.m.

Events for Saturday, Aug. 25, will begin with the annual Clay Lodge No. 85 F.&A.M. breakfast, from 7-11 a.m. Cost for the breakfast will be a freewill donation. Funds from the breakfast will go toward building a new lodge.

The annual baby contest will begin at 9:30 a.m. Check-in time is 9 a.m.

Categories include newborn to 6-months, 7-months to 1-year and 13-months to 2-years.

Winners from each age group will be selected. Prizes will be awarded for Little Prince and Little Princess. The contest is limited to Clay County and Bowling Green addresses only.

The Little Miss Contest will begin at 10 a.m., and take place under the Community Building awning. The contest is for children ages 4-6. Prizes will be awarded for Little Miss, first runner-up and second runner-up. The check-in time is 9:45 a.m.

The Toddler Contest will also take place at 9:45 a.m. The contest is for children ages 2-3. Prizes will be awarded for Little Prince, Little Princess, Best Smile and Prettiest Eyes. Check-in time is 9:30 a.m.

The contest is limited to Clay County and Bowling Green addresses only.

A Pedal Tractor Pull contest will begin at 2:30 p.m., on the west side of the Bowling Green square. It is open to children through age 12. Weigh-in time is 2 p.m. Tractors will be provided. Classes will be determined by weight of pullers.

Prizes will be given to the winners in each class.

The annual chicken noodle dinner will take place from 4-8 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults per plate and $5 for children 8-under per plate. Desserts will cost an additional $1.

A Cornhole Tournament will also take place. Signups will be from 4-4:30 p.m., on the east side of the town square. Cost is $10 per person.

First-place will be awarded $100, while second-place will earn $50.

The Antique Tractor Pull is set for 5 p.m.

Weigh-ins will be at 5 and 7 p.m., at the Bowling Green Feed and Grain Store. Pulling will begin at 7:30 p.m. No late entries will be accepted. Entry fees will be charged and 75 percent of all monies will be paid back as prizes.

The Center Point Family Band and James Family Singers will provide entertainment from 6-7:30 p.m.
