PUTNAM COUNTY -- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) recently announced United States 231 will close Monday, July 30, in Greencastle, at the intersection of Anderson Street.
The closure is scheduled for two months opening at the end of September.
The Anderson Street road reconstruction is a portion of the Stellar Communities Project by the City of Greencastle.
The limits are Locust Street on the west and U.S. 231/Bloomington Street on the east.
The old one-way eastbound street is being reconstructed as a two-way street to serve as a gateway to the campus of DePauw University.
The intersection of Anderson and U.S. 231 will be constructed using colored, stamped concrete pavement to clearly delineate it as the main entrance to the university.
Other amenities include street lighting, sidewalks and landscaping.
The project was awarded to Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Inc., for $2.1 million. It is scheduled to be completed in November 2012.
The official detour follows U.S. 231 northbound to Veterans Memorial Parkway westbound to South Jackson Street northbound and back to U.S. 231.
Traffic traveling in the opposite direction will use the same detour in reverse.
