The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Free Fans Available

Free box fans are now available to Brazil and Brazil Township residents at the Brazil Township Trustee's office, 37 W. Kruzan St., Brazil.

Persons who do not have air conditioning, or who have small children or those with breathing problems are eligible for a free fan, and should bring current identification to the office.

The Trustee's office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Township Trustee T.J. Sneddon also said more fans are needed, and those who wish to donate may call 446-9511, or bring them to the office.

No Burning

Due to extreme weather conditions, the Harmony Town Council is asking all residents to not conduct any outside burning until further notice.

Performance

The Stage Hams of Terre Haute will present, "The Orphan's King," at World Gospel Church, located on the corner of State Road 46 and Gardendale in Terre Haute, Friday, July 27, at 7 p.m., and at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 28.

Orphans, kidnapping, songs and dances combine for an entertaining show. Admission is free.

This is the eighth summer musical for the Stage Hams. Other included "The Sound of Music," in 2004; "Cinderella," in 2005; "Secret Garden," in 2006; "The Princess and the Pauperette," in 2007.

Golf Scramble

The second Pierson DeHart Memorial Golf Scramble will take place at noon, Saturday, July 28, at the Forest Park Golf Course.

Lunch will begin at noon, with tee-times set for 1 p.m.

Cost to participate in the scramble is $45 per person, which includes lunch and cart fees.

Cost for businesses or persons interested in sponsoring a hole and having a team of four golfers in the tournament will be $225.

Author Visit

Author Jeanne Moschenrose, M. Div., Ph.D, will be available for signings of her latest book, "How to be Happy -- Simple Steps to Having More Joy at any Age in any Situation," this week in the Clay County area.

Moschenrose will be at The Open Door Bookstore, Terre Haute, Saturday, July 28, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

She will also be at the library of South Putnam High School Thursday, Aug. 2, at noon.

Moschenrose will provide the presentation, "Fulfilling Your Dream," at the library.

Ice Cream Social

The Ashboro Methodist Church, south of Brazil on State Road 59, will conduct its 35th Ice Cream Social Saturday, July 28, beginning at 5 p.m.

There will also be plenty of barbecue sandwiches and hot dogs, as well as nachos and cheese, pies and cakes.

The homemade ice cream is made with pasteurized eggs.

Entertainment will be provided by For His Glory.

Freewill offerings will be accepted.

Basketball Camp

The YMCA of Clay County, in conjunction with First Christian Church, will sponsor the Mega Sports Basketball Camp July 30-Aug. 3, from 6-8 p.m., each evening.

The event is offered to boys and girls entering into fifth- and sixth-grade.

Cost is $25, which includes a T-shirt, water bottle, sports cards and a Bible.

CCHS Sets Meeting

The Clay County Historical Society will meet Aug. 6, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum.

The program will be "America's First Ladies," presented by Fredia Modesitt.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting.
