Shoemaker stays hot with Birmingham

Former Northview Knight standout Brady Shoemaker has hit .290 over his last 10 games withe the Double-A Birmingham Barons in the Southern League.
Former Northview High School baseball standout Brady Shoemaker saw action in his 20th game with the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, on Wednesday evening.

Shoemaker has compiled 66 official at-bats since his call up from the Winston-Salem Dash. Over that span, Shoemaker has hit .288 overall and has reached base 44 percent of the time as he has drawn 15 walks. He has also posted seven doubles and homered twice while driving in 10 runs and scored 15 times.

Over a three-game stretch from July 15-17, Shoemaker was 7-for-10 with three doubles and two RBI against Huntsville. He has hit .290 over the last 10 games with five RBI and four doubles.

Before his call-up, Shoemaker was one of the Carolina League's top hitters over 78 games stretching just past the All-Star break. The outfielder hit .331 over 284 at-bats and he hit 13 home runs while driving in 59 runs for the Dash. The former Indiana State Sycamore earned a starting spot on the Carolina League All-Star team.

Shoemaker was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 19th round of the 2009 draft.
