The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Free Fans Available

Free box fans are now available to Brazil and Brazil Township residents at the Brazil Township Trustee's office, 37 W. Kruzan St., Brazil.

Persons who do not have air conditioning, or who have small children or those with breathing problems are eligible for a free fan, and should bring current identification to the office.

The Trustee's office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Township Trustee T.J. Sneddon also said more fans are needed, and those who wish to donate may call 446-9511, or bring them to the office.

No Burning

Due to extreme weather conditions, the Harmony Town Council is asking all residents to not conduct any outside burning until further notice.

Scheduled Meetings

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

* Aug. 21 -- At the Van Buren Fire House, and

* Nov. 20 -- At the Posey Township Fire House.


The Stage Hams of Terre Haute will present, "The Orphan's King," at World Gospel Church, located on the corner of State Road 46 and Gardendale in Terre Haute, at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 28.

Orphans, kidnapping, songs and dances combine for an entertaining show. Admission is free.

This is the eighth summer musical for the Stage Hams.

Golf Scramble

The second Pierson DeHart Memorial Golf Scramble will take place at noon, Saturday, July 28, at the Forest Park Golf Course.

Lunch will begin at noon, with tee-times set for 1 p.m.

Cost to participate in the scramble is $45 per person, which includes lunch and cart fees.

Cost for businesses or persons interested in sponsoring a hole and having a team of four golfers in the tournament will be $225.

Author Visit

Author Jeanne Moschenrose, M. Div., Ph.D, will be available for signings of her latest book, "How to be Happy -- Simple Steps to Having More Joy at any Age in any Situation," this week in the Clay County area.

Moschenrose will be at The Open Door Bookstore, Terre Haute, Saturday, July 28, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

She will also be at the library of South Putnam High School Thursday, Aug. 2, at noon.

Moschenrose will provide the presentation, "Fulfilling Your Dream," at the library.


On Saturday, July 28, associates from St. Vincent Clay Hospital and Kroger will sell hot dogs, chips and soft drinks from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Kroger to raise money needed for school supplies as students prepare for the upcoming school year.

Area residents are encouraged to donate money or buy food and refreshments to support the needs of local students.

The money will be used to purchase school supplies, such as crayons, notebooks, pencils and backpacks.

Those interested in donating school supplies or for more information regarding the fundraiser, call Paulette Gaskill from St. Vincent Clay Hospital at 442-2699.

Food Giveaway

The Church of Our Lord Jesus, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil, will conduct a food giveaway Saturday, July 28, from 1-3 p.m.
