The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

No Burning

Due to extreme weather conditions, the Harmony Town Council is asking all residents to not conduct any outside burning until further notice.

Basketball Camp

The YMCA of Clay County, in conjunction with First Christian Church, will sponsor the Mega Sports Basketball Camp July 30-Aug. 3, from 6-8 p.m., each evening.

The event is offered to boys and girls entering into fifth- and sixth-grade.

Cost is $25, which includes a T-shirt, water bottle, sports cards and a Bible.

Class To Meet

The Brazil High School class of 1947 will meet for lunch on the fifth Tuesday, July 31, at the Brazil Pizza Hut.

The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Dinner Time!

Carbon Lodge No. 529 F.&A.M. will host, along with Knightsville Lodge No. 409 F.&A.M., Job Daughters, OES at the Knightsville Lodge, a dinner Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at 6:30 p.m.

Meats, bread and drinks will be furnished.

CCHS Sets Meeting

The Clay County Historical Society will meet Aug. 6, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum.

The program will be "America's First Ladies," presented by Fredia Modesitt.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting.

Orientation

Freshmen orientation for students at Northview High School will take place Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Students and parents will receive information, schedules and locker assignments and have an opportunity to tour the school.

Car Show

Harrison College, 1378 S. State Road 46, Terre Haute, will conduct a Cruise-In For Diabetes event Sunday, Aug. 12, from 1-4 p.m.

All proceeds raised will be donated to the American Diabetes Association.

Car, truck and motorcycle owners who want to exhibit their vehicles in the show may pre-register through July 27, for a cost of $10. Registrations will be accepted from noon-2 p.m., the day of the event at a cost of $15.

The first 50 registrants will receive a commemorative plaque and goodie bag.

Awards will be presented in 12 different categories.

The public is invited to attend the event at no cost.

Library Adult Program

Edward Jones Financial Advisor Lynsey Lunsford will be at the Brazil Public Library for a presentation Thursday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m.

Lunsford will discuss how people can translate their vision for retirement into tangible goals.

Whether they are 10 or 40 years away from retirement, people will learn investment strategies they may use now to help design the retirement they desire for the future.

The presentation will be free and open to the public.

Time For A Festival!

The annual Bowling Green Old Settlers Festival will take place Aug. 23-25, in Bowling Green.

The festival will kick off Thursday, Aug. 23, with a ribeye dinner, and close Saturday, Aug. 25, with entertainment provided by the Center Point Family Band and James Family Singers, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Baby Contest

The annual Bowling Green Old Settlers Festival Baby Contest is scheduled to take place Saturday, Aug. 25.

The contest will begin at 9:30 a.m. Check-in time is 9 a.m. Categories include newborn to 6 months, 7-months to 1-year, and 13-months to 2-years.

The contest is limited to Clay County and Bowling Green addresses only.
