According to Brazil Police Chief Clint McQueen, the arrest took place Sunday night at approximately 11:35 p.m., after patrolman Jeremy Mace conducted a traffic stop for speeding at the corner of Alabama and Maple streets.
McQueen said during the stop, patrolman Mace noticed Darius Hammond, 28, Brazil, exhibiting suspicious actions, which led him to contact K9 Officer Robert Van Buren.
Once on the scene, Officer Van Buren deployed his K9, Titan, who displayed a positive indication on the vehicle.
Officers discovered two ounces of marijuana inside the vehicle, which led to Hammond's arrest and initial charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
McQueen commended his officers for their efforts.
"Officers did an exceptional job of the traffic enforcement and further investigation, which lead to the discovery of illegal drugs," McQueen said.
