Area schools release info for new school year

The following information was released by Clay Community Schools regarding the upcoming 2012-2013 school year.

Teachers will meet on Monday, Aug. 13, at Northview High School for an organizational meeting. Students will begin classes on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Principals will be in their buildings beginning Wednesday, Aug. 1.

New student registration for all elementary schools is Monday, Aug. 6-Friday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., every day.

School day times are as follows: Clay City Elementary 8:25 a.m.-3 p.m., Clay City High School 8:25 a.m.-3:05 p.m., East Side Elementary 8:05 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Forest Park Elementary 8:05 a.m.-2:30 p.m, Jackson Twp. Elementary 8:05 a.m.-2:30 p.m, Meridian Elementary 8:05 a.m.-2:30 p.m, Staunton Elementary 8:05 a.m.-2:30 p.m, Van Buren Elementary 8:05 a.m.-2:30 p.m, North Clay Middle School 8:30 a.m.-3:20 p.m., Northview High School 8:30 a.m.-3:10 p.m., Cumblerland Academy 8:30 a.m.-3:10 p.m.

Information regarding specific schools:

Clay City-New students can register in the guidance office beginning Tuesday, July 31. All back-to-school information for students grade 7-12 including class schedules can be picked up in the main office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., between Thursday, Aug. 2 and Wednesday, Aug. 8. Anything that is not picked up by 4 p.m. on Aug. 8, will be mailed. Textbook rental is collected once class assignments are finalized.

Those with questions can call the school at 812-939-2154 to speak with a counselor. Counselors are not available for calls on Thursday, Aug. 9, or on the morning of Monday, Aug. 13.

Grade 7/New Student Orientation Night is Monday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m, in the Auditeria for students and parents. A variety of issues will be discussed.

All students except for grade 7 will report to their first period classes on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Grade 7 students will report to the Auditeria.

Northview High School-Beginning Monday, Aug. 6, new students needing to enroll can call Northview at 448-2661 to arrange a scheduling appointment.

Open House for incoming ninth-grade students is on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 6:30 p.m., in the auditorium.

Class schedules for ninth-grade students will be distributed at that time. Other class schedules will be distributed at homeroom on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

No class schedule changes will be made except to correct a schedule mistake or balance classes per the policy in the Course Description Booklet. Any student with scheduling mistakes needs to contact Northview to make an appointment. Any other questions can be answered by calling the school to sign up to speak with a counselor.

Textbook rental will be collected when all class assignments are finalized.

The backpack and purse policy indicates that backpacks must be kept in lockers and purses can be no larger than the average textbook.

North Clay Middle School- Back to school night for all grades is Aug. 13, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. From 5:30-6:30, students can pick up their schedule and locker assignments, deposit lunch money and apply for lunch and textbook assistance. From 6:30-6:45, students and parents will attend a meeting in the gym conducted by Gregory Moe, new middle school principal. From 6:45-7:30, students and parents can walk through their student's schedule and meet the teachers.

All preschool, kindergarten and students new to Clay Community Schools should bring a copy of their completed immunization record to school when enrolling.

The prices for breakfast and lunch for the 2012-2013 school year as are follows:

Elementary Breakfast $1.25, Elementary Lunch $2.20, Middle and High School Breakfast $1.35, Middle and High School Lunch $2.30, Adult Breakfast $2.25, Adult Lunch $3.25 and Extra Milk is $0.30.

Breakfast/lunch charges are no longer allowed at the middle school or high school level. For elementary students, three charges will be allowed, but students will be asked to pay for those charges. Students without money for meals after charges are accumulated will be provided with a peanut butter/jelly sandwich and milk.
