The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Water Restrictions

The Town of Center Point is asking all water customers to implement a self-regulated, voluntary water restriction and begin conservation measures.

According to town officials, precautionary measures are requested due to the weather and present demands to the town's water system.

Free Fans Available

Free box fans are now available to Brazil and Brazil Township residents at the Brazil Township Trustee's office, 37 W. Kruzan St., Brazil. Persons who do not have air conditioning, or who have small children or those with breathing problems are eligible for a free fan, and should bring current identification to the office.

The Trustee's office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Township Trustee T.J. Sneddon also said more fans are needed, and those who wish to donate may call 446-9511, or bring them to the office.

No Burning

Due to extreme weather conditions, the Harmony Town Council is asking all residents to not conduct any outside burning until further notice.

Scheduled Meetings

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

* Aug. 21 -- At the Van Buren Fire House, and

* Nov. 20 -- At the Posey Township Fire House.

Show Time!

The Yester Year Power Club will conduct a Tractor and Engine Show/Swap Saturday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., at Goshorn Park, Clay City.

The event will also feature cars, rods and trucks, restored or unrestored.

There is no charge to show or sell.

Door prizes will be handed out all day.

There will also be a free ham and beans dinner at noon, a tractor poker run and tractor games.

CCHS Sets Meeting

The Clay County Historical Society will meet Aug. 6, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum.

The program will be "America's First Ladies," presented by Fredia Modesitt.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting.


Freshmen orientation for students at Northview High School will take place Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Students and parents will receive information, schedules and locker assignments and have an opportunity to tour the school.

Car Show

Harrison College, 1378 S. State Road 46, Terre Haute, will conduct a Cruise-In For Diabetes event Sunday, Aug. 12, from 1-4 p.m. All proceeds raised will be donated to the American Diabetes Association.

Car, truck and motorcycle owners who want to exhibit their vehicles in the show may pre-register through July 27, for a cost of $10. Registrations will be accepted from noon-2 p.m., the day of the event at a cost of $15.

The first 50 registrants will receive a commemorative plaque and goodie bag.
