Department issues reminder to motorists

Thursday, August 2, 2012

BOWLING GREEN -- With the closure of the Eel River Bridge on State Road 46 in Bowling Green, the motor vehicle traffic has increased significantly on State Road 246 in Owen County, according to officials with the Owen County Sheriff's Department.

Officials wanted to remind motorists that portions of State Road 246 are also under construction.

"We understand that this detour is a great inconvenience for motorists," Owen County Sheriff Greg Denny said. "Our concern is the health and safety of the motorist and the citizens along this route of travel."

Officials reminded motorists that the beginning of the school year is just around the corner and two schools, Patricksburg Elementary and Clay City Junior/Senior High School, are located along State Road 246.

"There will be increased safety patrols along this route of traffic and all state traffic laws will be strictly enforced," Denny said.
