PUTNAM COUNTY -- On Wednesday, Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash on westbound United States 40 near County Road 500 West.
The accident took place at approximately 11:45 p.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Mitsubishi driven by Rohn T. Smith, 23, Brazil, was westbound on U.S. 40, when he veered into the median, overcorrected and traveled into a wooded area on the north side of the roadway.
Smith was later transported to Putnam County Hospital for minor lacerations, abrasions and complaint of pain.
He was later transferred to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, for chest injuries.
According to officials, seatbelts were in use.
The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Jonathan Cumbie. Assisting were the Putnam County Sheriff's Department and Putnam County EMS.
Earlier that evening, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Trooper Cumbie had stopped Smith on U.S. 40 near County Road 25 West for speeding. Smith had been issued a warning.
Officials believe alcohol and/or drugs could have been a factor in the accident and the investigation is ongoing.
