The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Literacy Program

Adults who cannot read or would like to improve their reading are invited to visit private tutors through the Clay County Adult Literacy Program.

The program is free and is set up at the Brazil Public Library, 204 N. Walnut St., Brazil.

For more information regarding the program, call 446-1331. A tutor will contact those calling.

Water Restrictions

The Town of Center Point is asking all water customers to implement a self-regulated, voluntary water restriction and begin conservation measures.

According to town officials, precautionary measures are requested due to the weather and present demands to the town's water system.

No Burning

Due to extreme weather conditions, the Harmony Town Council is asking all residents to not conduct any outside burning until further notice.

Homeschooling Meeting

Those considering homeschooling or those wanting more information should come to "Homeschool 101," and informational meeting, Monday, Aug. 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting will take place at the Meridian Street Church of Christ, 1524 N. Meridian St., Brazil.

Park Board To Meet

The Brazil Parks and Recreation Board will conduct a special meeting Monday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

Bids on roof repairs will be discussed and acceptance determined.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting.

CCHS Sets Meeting

The Clay County Historical Society will meet Aug. 6, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum.

The program will be "America's First Ladies," presented by Fredia Modesitt.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting.

Board To Meet

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a meeting Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

A regular meeting of the Brazil Common Council will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8, in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

Commissioners To Meet

The Board of Commissioners for the Brazil Housing Authority will conduct its monthly meeting Thursday, Aug. 9, at 8:30 a.m., at the offices of Brazil Housing Authority, 122 W. Jackson St., Brazil.

Dinner Time!

The Friendly Benwood Community Christian Youth Camp, 525 E. CR 1200 N., Brazil, will host an all-you-can-eat Country Rhodes Fish Fry, Aug. 11, from 4-7 p.m.

Cost is $8.50 for adults and $5.50 for children 12-under.

The menu will consist of walleye, catfish curls, shrimp, chicken strips, baked beans, applesauce, steak fries and more.

The event will take place in the camp's dining hall.

Car Show

Harrison College, 1378 S. State Road 46, Terre Haute, will conduct a Cruise-In For Diabetes event Sunday, Aug. 12, from 1-4 p.m.

All proceeds raised will be donated to the American Diabetes Association.

Registrations will be accepted from noon-2 p.m., the day of the event at a cost of $15.

The first 50 registrants will receive a commemorative plaque and goodie bag.

Awards will be presented in 12 different categories.

The public is invited to attend the event at no cost.

Program Scheduled

The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will present "Researching Your Home's History," Monday, Aug. 13.

The program will be presented by Tina Coplan at the Vigo County Public Library.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the presentation running from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The program is free to the public.

Library Adult Program

Edward Jones Financial Advisor Lynsey Lunsford will be at the Brazil Public Library for a presentation Thursday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m.

Lunsford will discuss how people can translate their vision for retirement into tangible goals.

Whether they are 10 or 40 years away from retirement, people will learn investment strategies they may use now to help design the retirement they desire for the future.

The presentation will be free and open to the public.
