Two Northview High School cheerleaders, Abi Minton, 15, and Kara Clodfelter, 18, are raising money to attend the National Cheerleading Association/National Dance Association Walt Disney World Extravaganza event in Florida from Nov. 29-Dec. 2.
Minton and Clodfelter recently attended an NCA Cheer Camp at Indiana State University, where they auditioned for and made the All-American Team. That acceptance onto the team means they are now able to attend special All-American events throughout the 2012-13 year.
Minton and Clodfelter were the only girls from Northview to make the All-American Team.
The girls have chosen to attend the Disney Extravaganza event in December because, according to Clodfelter, "it's far from home and will be something different to do."
In order to attend this event, each girl needs to raise $734, plus the price of a plane ticket. If their parents choose to attend, they will need to raise extra funds for their parents as well.
The girls are planning several fundraising events in the community in order to raise the funds necessary to attend the Disney Extravaganza. Their first fundraising event is a Tag Day at Walmart, located at 2150 East National Avenue, on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
"I don't think anyone from Brazil has ever been to this event to cheer," Clodfelter said, "so I hope the community supports us in our fundraising."
The girls are planning on continuing their fundraising by possibly setting up cans for collection around the community and having a yard sale.
Minton and Clodfelter said they both enjoy cheerleading, stating that it's "fun and exciting."
As for the Disney Extravaganza in December, Minton is most excited to cheer in the Disney Parade.
"We get to cheer in the Christmas parade that they air on T.V. on Christmas day," Minton said. "It should be fun."
