TERRE HAUTE -- Playing in its third tournament of the season, and second in Vigo County, the Northview Knights played their best round in placing fourth overall at Rea Park in the Terre Haute South Invite.
Annie Getzin of Jasper was the overall medalist with a 1-over-par, 73, finishing the back nine in 34. Her teammate, McKenzi Hilsmeyer was close behind with a score of 75.
The Knights were in the lead as the team came in with a score of 369 led by sophomore Keirsten Mikesell's round of 87. Playing with Terre Haute North and the only three golfers on South Knox team, the Knights out shot the Patriots by 11 strokes to lead the first seven full teams to the clubhouse. However, as Jasper and Vincennes Rivet's scores began to filter in, the Knights began to shuffle back slightly.
The Wildcats' No. 5 golfer shot an 87 and Rivet got scores of 80 from both Carly Waggoner and Payton Meeks to solidify the second team spot, 23 strokes (340) behind the Wildcats. Terre Haute South got a career-best score of 79 from No. 1 golfer Alexandra Pickens to edge Northview for the third spot with a score of 363. The Patriots were fifth at 380 followed by Washington, South Putnam, Cloverdale, Greencastle and Linton.
The Knights returned Megan Heaton to the lineup and she played well with a score of 90, which was a stroke behind her teammate, Karlie Atkinson, who shot an 89. MaKenzie Brown shot a 108 and Sierra Girton carded a 103.
Northview hosts Cloverdale and Linton Thursday evening at Forest Park beginning at 4:30 p.m.
