The Brazil Parks and Recreation Board met in the City Hall Council Chambers for a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m., to discuss bids on roof repairs for Forest Park.
Significant hail damage this year called for repairs on several Forest Park structures including dugouts one and two, the softball diamond concession stand and restroom, Santa's house, the concession stand, shelters 1-13, the King Street garage, the park office, the band shell and the small and large log cabins.
Three local construction companies placed bids on the construction projects. Pell's Roofing submitted a bid of $75,350. Steve Carter submitted a bid of $43,255 and Mike Miller submitted a bid of $39,815.66. Only Pell's bid included construction on the band shell, which the others did not.
The board already received $45,000 in insurance money for construction, with the insurance company stating they will pay up to $57,452.19 should the construction costs go over the initial $45,000.
The board discussed these bids and specifics of construction with Pell and Miller who were both present at the meeting.
They discussed quality of roofing supplies, a time frame for the construction, insurance liabilities and the importance of the band shell reconstruction, which Miller and Carter's bids did not cover.
The board voted unanimously to accept Pell's Roofing bid on construction of the band shell only at a price of $12,780. Miller will repair the additional structures at his bid price of $39,815.66.
Construction on the structures is expected to begin as soon as possible.
