TERRE HAUTE -- Like their gridiron counterparts the evening before, soccer players around the area got their first chance to face competition wearing a different jersey in jamboree play on Saturday morning at Terre Haute North.

All three Vigo County schools along with Northview took part in playing a pair of 20-minute periods for both the boys and girls.

The girls took to the field first as Terre Haute North and Northview played to a scoreless draw as the Knights' Mannah Mace provided a shutout in net versus the Patriots. The second period saw West Vigo and the Knights face off and Northview got a pair of goals from both Libby Deckard and Hannah Minor in a 4-0 decision.

Deckard got an assist from Minor to open the scoring before Minor added the second set of goals off assists from Brittany Fagg and Haley Zadeii. Deckard provided the final tally against a West Vigo side that was limited to just 10 players due to injuries.

The middle period saw the Patriots' Kaleigh Sutliff provide the only score in the match-up between North and Terre Haute South.

The boys' squads took to the field for the second scrimmage with West Vigo and Terre Haute South providing a 1-1 draw. The Vikings' Justin Kump scored on a penalty kick and Rush Somerville was the scorer for the Braves.

The Patriots remained on the field for the second 20 minutes to face the Knights with Noah Brewster getting a penalty kick of his own as North edged Northview, 1-0. Terre Haute North and South played to a scoreless draw in their match-up and the Knights finished the afternoon with a 0-0 tie against the Vikings.

"It was nice to get some game speed experience," Northview boys' coach Dustin Jorgensen said. "Our team seems to have a lot of chemistry, and teams with chemistry can be really dangerous. I'm very optimistic about our season. If our players believe we can win, we are going to win."

Matt Malone had nine saves in goal between the two periods and against the Patriots, Pierce Ross had two shots with Kaleb Baker adding one. Against the Vikings, Trey Boor had a pair of shots on net with Sean Brockman adding three and Zach Rodgers posting one.

The Northview girls open play Tuesday evening with a home match against Crawfordsville at 5 p.m. while the boys travel to Terre Haute North the same evening, also starting at 5 p.m.
