Visiting Bloomfield's boys' tennis team got a measure of revenge for a loss at home last year to the Northview Knights.

A Cardinals team that still boasts plenty of youth, won all three singles matches to claim a 3-2 victory over the Knights in Northview's season opener.

Bloomfield has just one senior on the roster along with three sophomores and two freshmen, but four of those players saw action in a 4-1 Northview victory last year. On Wednesday evening, Bloomfield sophomore Del Carter won his rematch against Bryce Britton at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1 while freshman Alex Chestnut defeated the Knights' Kyle Moore at No. 2, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. In the No. 3 singles match, Northview's Tyler Funk lost to sophomore Conner Dowden, 6-1, 6-4.

"Our singles guys need to be more consistent," Northview coach Craig Cook said. "We need to think the game through rather than it being just all physical. Sometimes we need to make adjustments in the match. We can't just play at one speed all of the time."

The results were more positive in doubles action as veterans Alec Coughanowr and Skyler Holifield teamed to win at No. 1 doubles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

"I thought our doubles, for the most part, played pretty well," Cook said. "Alec (Coughanowr) and Skyler (Holifield) had a tough first set against some kids that are pretty good players. I felt like they dug in there in the second set, took it over, and controlled the match from there."

The No. 2 doubles combo was a new one for the Knights, but the outcome was a good one for Northview fans.

Damon Bass and Gaddis Baysinger defeated Evan Fuller and Hunter Heaton by a 6-3, 6-4 score.

"That's a young combination," Cook said of the No. 2 doubles pairing. "I put Damon and Gaddis together based on their age. Kind of a righty/lefty type set-up so for the first night of them being in a varsity match, I was pretty happy with that."

The Knights (0-1 overall) travel to North Central (Farmersburg) this evening at 5 p.m.
