TERRE HAUTE -- Those with a keen interest in weaving and wanting to try their hand at it should take interest in an upcoming workshop at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
White Violet Center for Eco-Justice will host a Beginning Weaving Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The workshop provides a great way to see if people like the process of weaving by working on a smaller project that can be finished in one day.
Participants will learn the essential steps to thread the four-harness floor loom and the techniques to weaving.
All materials and looms will be provided.
Those attending will learn to thread the looms and weave four-mug rugs (coasters) to use in the home.
Those attending can also choose to purchase alpaca yarns from White Violet Center to create weavings.
Cost is $100 for the workshop, plus $15 for materials. The workshop will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Lunch is included in the fee. Housing is available for an extra charge.
Instructor John Salamone of Giandino Fiber Studio is a weaver and teacher. A lover of color and texture, he enjoys working with chenille and double weave structures. He lives in Carbon, Ind., where he spins, and is entertained by his sheep and angora rabbits.
