ISP sobriety checkpoint

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

VIGO COUNTY -- The Putnamville District of the Indiana State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Vigo County during the late evening hours of Thursday, Aug. 23.

The checkpoint is in conjunction with the Operation Pull Over "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" traffic safety campaign, which runs from Aug. 17-Sept. 3.

Drivers who encounter a checkpoint will be required to produce a valid driver's license and registration.

Motorists who are not impaired can expect only short delays of 2-3 minutes while passing through the checkpoint.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to adhere to two basic principles when consuming alcohol: Do not drink and drive and always use a designated driver. Following these basic principles could save lives.

Those who encounter a suspected impaired driver are encouraged to call 911 and give a description of the vehicle, location and direction of travel.
