Two people were transported to the hospital following a three-vehicle accident Monday.

According to officials, emergency agencies were dispatched to the scene, just east of Northview High School on State Road 340, at approximately 12:15 p.m.

Clay County Sheriff's Department Deputy Jason Frazier told The Brazil Times two of the vehicles -- a Dodge Caravan driven by Martha Franklin, 50, Staunton, and a Nissan Sentra, driven by Allison Lee, 45, Brazil -- were stopped in the road due to work being done by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

Frazier said Brian Vollmar, 35, Indianapolis, allegedly became "distracted" while in his Honda Acura and rear-ended Lee's vehicle, which in turn ran into Franklin's van.

Lee complained of leg and arm pain and was transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital.

Franklin complained of back and neck pain and was transported to an unknown hospital in Terre Haute.

Other agencies responding to the scene included Indiana State Police, the Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department and TransCare.

A Clay Co sheriff's deputy secondarily responding to a relatively minor accident endangered many of the people in a funeral procession on Water Works Road. He was driving unnecessarily fast and weaving in and out of motorists who had just left Cottage Hill Cemetary just to block traffic at the high school from proceed east on SR 340.

I should mention there were sufficient people on scene for traffic control before he arrived.
