She was born in Brazil, July 17, 1920, the daughter of Harvey Kingery and Mary Barbara (McGranahan) Kingery.
She married John Mercer April 10, 1940; he preceded her in death in 1971.
Jane graduated with the Brazil High School class of 1938 and later the same year graduated from Beauty School in Terre Haute.
In her early years, she worked as a beautician and for 16 years she worked at the Clay County Welfare office; she retired from the welfare office in 1988.
She was a long time member of the Brazil First United Methodist Church.
Jane was a founding member of Christmas in the Park for which she designed the logo.
She was responsible for the art shows that took place during Christmas in the Park.
Jane was also a longtime member of the Literacy Coalition of Clay County.
For many years Jane created award-winning scrapbooks for Tri Kappa Sorority.
Jane was a member of the 7:30 HomeEc Club.
Many have been blessed by Jane's artistic abilities as well as her many poems.
Over the years, Jane won several art awards and ribbons for her work.
Writing poetry allowed Jane to recite poetry she had written at many different clubs and organization meetings.
Jane had a heart for others and volunteered often.
She was recognized for her volunteerism by being nominated for the Daniel Harris award.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey Kingery and Mary Barbara (McGranahan) Kingery Holliday, husband John Mercer, and a brother Marvin Kingery, as well as several very dear friends.
Jane leaves behind her daughter Diane Reynolds and husband Emery, Brazil, two sons Robert Mercer, Brazil, and John Mercer Jr. and wife Karen, Clay City, grandchildren Judy Terrando, Florida, Tony Terrando and wife Joanne, Florida, Ellen Looney and husband Mike, Avon, Cyndi Tottleben and husband Tom, Peoria, Ill., Michael Mercer and wife Lisa, Washington, Ind., and David Mercer and wife Rebecca, Clay City, great-grandchildren Kayla Mercer, Liam Terrando, Lauren Terrando, Breena Tottleben and Nathan Pennington and wife Dessa, sister-in-law Dorothy Kingery as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services for Jane will be at French Funeral Home, in Brazil, Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steve Loft officiating.
Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 p.m.
