Success for area youth at state fair
It was a banner year for Clay County 4-H'ers at the Indiana State Fair.
The state fair officially ended Sunday, Aug. 19, but several Clay County 4-H'ers walked away from the two-week event with many ribbons and awards.
Clay County Extension Educator for 4-H Youth Development Tammy Steiner told The Brazil Times 4-H results for the county were "great."
"It's amazing to be able to watch any of those shows," Steiner said.
This year, a handful of Clay County 4-H'ers managed to capture showmanship trophies in their respective categories.
Steiner said Hayden Smith won Limousin Beef Showmanship, Junior Division, while Dane Miller won Intermediate Showmanship Red Poll in cattle. In addition, Colton Miller won Senior Showmanship in the same category.
Whitney Halfhill captured Senior Showmanship in the Poland Swine category, while Hunter Wolfe was named Champion in the Crossbred, Commercial and Other Barrow division.
Kara Rendant also won Junior 4-H Showmanship in the Pygmy Goat division.
"That says a lot about Clay County and (4-H'ers)," Steiner said, referring to the showmanship awards.
