Sunday, August 26, 2012

TERRE HAUTE -- The Indiana State Police Putnamville District conducted traffic patrols both Friday and Saturday evenings of the Scheid Diesel event, which took place at the Vigo County Fairgrounds in Terre Haute.

The extra patrols were put in place to ensure the safety of those attending the event as well as the motoring public.

The troopers utilized plain cars, high performance Mustangs and marked patrols cars to conduct the extra patrols.

The additional patrols resulted in 755 total traffic citations, 519 traffic citations (moving violations), 27 driving under the influence arrests, 691 traffic warnings, 48 truck violation ticket, 23 criminal arrests (18 misdemeanor and five felony), 197 seatbelt violations, 187 portable breath tests administered and 15 miscellaneous alcohol arrests.

In addition, on Thursday, Aug. 23, troopers conducted a DUI checkpoint on United States 40 near the Wabash River.

Of the 188 vehicles that went through the checkpoint, there were a total of three DUI arrests and two criminal arrests.

They also reported issuing 19 traffic warnings and 17 traffic citations at the checkpoint.

Seems Like the Scheid Diesel event will not have the attendance at their next event that they had at this one.

Harass the masses to restrain & confine the minority. These kind of check points violate basic civil liberty laws. Don't you have to be "suspicious of something" to stop me. 33 arrest isn't a big number in comparison to how many people were delayed, interrogated, and harassed. What was the added expense of all of this? easily into the 10's of thousands ...

cory smith says it the best; "they say they're trying to keep the streets safe, but, that's a big lie" & "it's all about the money" great song isn't it!

Down wit 'da man, right Thud? Keep the white man down. BS, If you're innocent and have nothing to hide, this type of enforcement is just a little inconvenience, that's all.

my dime;

it's called the constitution; and the first ten amendments (the bill of rights) are the most important and sacred. they are to be protected before any laws are and can be enforced. the "so-called inconvenience" you speak of; goes against those principles. whether a person is innocent or hiding something; has nothing to do with it. what everyone must realize; the constitution is the "supreme law of the land" and it is beyond reproach.

I just wonder how these kids got the money to pay for these kinds of trucks? Oh, and did they have to stay 8 feet from the door while they were smoking the whole town with their trucks?

It got 3 drunk drivers off the road, and 2 criminals off the streets. Sounds to me like it was a success!

I wouldn't advise any one to try to turn north from I-70 to 3rd Street after they close the show down. Even with all the law enforcement there they go right thru the lights. After the smoke clears the light is back red. From the red light to the next block it was a drag race, so the cops had every right to ticket him.

From the sounds of Mr Bedwell's post, I am glad I voted for the other guy.

thanks for not voting for me! i really didn't want the job anyway! was just asked to do it; by concerned citizens in this community who have had enough of the bs. i did no campaigning whatsoever in that election, no signs, no campaign contributions, spent no money and did absolutely nothing other than throw my name in the hat! the results of that election say it all. stupid old greasy motorcycle mechanic vs. career politician. i believe that those results were because people knew that i would and will stand up for what is right. and i am not afraid to speak my mind; while hiding behind a (fictious) screen name.

thank you very much for your input; and have a good day.
