The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to take veterans in the community to the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, or to one of their Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

Those interested are encouraged to contact Michael R. Holland, Clay County Veterans Service Office, at 448-9015.

Cub Scout Notice

Cub Scout Pack 45 meets regularly on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m., at the Family Worship Center, located on County Road 425 West.

Trash Notice

Officials with the Brazil City Garage recently notified The Brazil Times that it will be one day behind on trash pickup the week of Sept. 3, 2012.

Literacy Program

Adults who cannot read or would like to improve their reading are invited to visit private tutors through the Clay County Adult Literacy Program.

The program is free and is set up at the Brazil Public Library, 204 N. Walnut St., Brazil.

Scheduled Meetings

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

* Nov. 20 -- At the Posey Township Fire House.

Board Of Works To Meet

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a meeting Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

'Kid's Night'

Wesley Chapel Church will offer a "Kid's Night," Aug. 31, from 6-9 p.m.

Games, songs and crafts will be available. A meal will also be provided.

Those interested in attending should make a reservation by calling Emily Myers at 812-201-6345.

There is no cost to attend the event, but donations for the church would be greatly appreciated.

Story Hour!

Story Hour will resume at the Brazil Public Library.

Children interested in reading with stories, songs and crafts are welcome to the library Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

The event is set up for children ages 3-5.

Parents and guardians must have a valid library card.

Signups will begin Saturday, Sept. 1.

Softball Tournament

The Saline City Picnic Association's annual softball tournament will take place Sept. 1-3.

Golf Scramble

The 2012 Brazil Elks Golf Scramble will take place Sunday, Sept. 2, at the Forest Park Golf Course, Brazil.

A shotgun start has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Registration and lunch will take place at 11:30 a.m.

Cost is $50 per person.

The entry deadline to take part is Aug. 31, 2012.

Meeting Rescheduled

The Carbon Town Council board meeting in September will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Carbon Town Hall.

All are welcome to attend the meeting.

Nature Day

The fourth Clay County Nature Day will take place Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds.

It is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., and conclude at 1 p.m.

Ice Cream!

Otter Creek Christian Church will conduct an Ice Cream Social Saturday, Sept. 8, from 4-8 p.m., at the church, 6298 N. Crow St., Brazil, two miles north of Cloverland.

Other items on the menu will include hot dogs and other dishes, in addition to several desserts.

Entertainment will be provided by the Stanley Family Gospel Singers.

A moonwalk bouncing event is also scheduled for children.

Annual Dinner

The annual 9-11 Law enforcement dinner will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11, at noon, at East Side Christian Church, 400 Church St., Brazil.

The dinner will consist of ham and beans.

The event is for firefighters, and other law enforcement officials.

Family Fun Day!

Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc., will conduct its District 7 Family Fun Day Saturday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m., at the Sandborn Park and Community Building, Sandborn.

Residents wanting to attend are asked to RSVP by Sept. 7. To register, call the Clay County office at 446-2521.


Alpha Omega Alpha Alumnae of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority will celebrate its 75th birthday Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., with an open house at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

Ladies in the community who have a MAL membership or who dropped in good standing are welcome to join the active and alumnae members in observing the birthday.

Craft Time

Interested children are invited to the Brazil Public Library Thursday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m., to make six beautiful, quick and easy paper flowers for any occasion. Cost for the event is $3, and those attending must pre-pay and pre-register.

The annual Clay County Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble will take place Friday, Sept. 21, at Forest Park Golf Course. A shotgun start at 1 p.m., is planned, with lunch scheduled for noon. Cost to register is $50 per person or $200 per team. Those interested in participating should send registration and checks payable to Clay County Chamber of Commerce, 535 E. National Ave., Brazil, Ind., 47834.

'Family Bash'

The Vigo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will conduct "Family Bash on the Wabash," Sept. 22, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The event will include a silent auction, food, children's activities, entertainment and more. "Family Bash on the Wabash," is open to the public to promote awareness of Vigo County's CASA mission, "being a powerful voice in a child's life through dedicated volunteers like you."
