Martha L. Hester McKenzie, Brazil, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, after a lengthy illness.

Martha was the fifth daughter born to Santy and Rose Evans Hester on June 12, 1938, in Russellville. She was a graduate of Russellville High School with the class of 1956. She was married to Larry McKenzie Dec. 8, 1972. To this union was born a son, Phillip, Staunton, and a daughter, Michelle (Gregg) Chandler, Spencer. She was divorced Dec. 23, 1983.

Martha was a member of Staunton First Christian Church where she was a most devout and faithful member until her health caused her participation to decline. She was also a member of the Sunshine Club of Brazil and was a member of Eastern Star for many years.

She was a caregiver for several people and worked many years at Lau Industries in Lebanon.

Martha is also survived by grandchildren Robert McKenzie, Lebanon, Garret McKenzie and Wyatt McKenzie, Staunton, Toby Chandler and Malishia Chandler, Spencer, two sisters Eleanor McGaughey, Russellville, Sharon (Dale) Luper, Lebanon, one brother James A. (Marilyn) Hester, Zionsville, and 25 devoted nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Lenna (Glenn) Jones and Eileen (James) Snoddy.

Funeral services will take place at the Staunton First Christian Church on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m., with calling prior to services from 12-2 p.m. Following cremation, her ashes will be buried at the Russellville Cemetery alongside her parents.
