Edward Eugene "Smoke" Weis Jr., 55, Brazil, passed away at Roudebush Veterans Medical Center, in Indianapolis, following an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Joliet, Ill., Jan. 1, 1957, the son of Edward Eugene and Laveda (Raines) Weis Sr. Edward graduated from high school in Colorado and furthered his education through the military. He served in the United States Army from 1974 through 1978; he was honorably discharge as a Corporal.
Edward worked as a mechanic at CarX, in Joliet, Ill. He worked for Sutherland and Sons and B and B Construction in Brazil. His most recent and most fulfilling job was babysitting for his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Logan and Halle.
Edward's hobbies included playing with his grandchildren, watching NASCAR and playing with his dog Tyson. He was a member of the fraternal order of the Moose and Eagles lodges in Brazil.
He was preceded in death by his brother Mike Weis.
Survivors include his wife Janet Weis, Brazil, son Eddie Weis and wife Amy, Brazil, grandchildren Kaitlyn, Logan and Halle, parents Edward Eugene Weis Sr. and Laveda Weis, Joliet, Ill., brothers Donald Weis, Joliet, Ill., Richard Miers and wife Mary, Kentucky, sister Jackie Miller and husband David, Earlsville, Ill., as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members..
Services for Edward will be at French Funeral Home, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jim McMahon officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. Visit www.frenchfuneralhome.com to light a candle in his memory.
