The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Cub Scout Notice

Cub Scout Pack 45 meets regularly on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m., at the Family Worship Center, located on County Road 425 West.

Literacy Program

Adults who cannot read or would like to improve their reading are invited to visit private tutors through the Clay County Adult Literacy Program.

The program is free and is set up at the Brazil Public Library, 204 N. Walnut St., Brazil.

For more information regarding the program, call 446-1331. A tutor will contact those calling.

Scheduled Meetings

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

* Nov. 20 -- At the Posey Township Fire House.

Nature Day

The fourth Clay County Nature Day will take place Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds. It is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., and conclude at 1 p.m. For more information, call the Purdue Extension Clay County Office at 448-9041.

Benefit

A benefit for Kaylee Westfall will take place Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Brazil Moose Lodge, 225 S. Depot St., Brazil.

Westfall, 17, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia July 5, 2012. She is the daughter of Bryan and Becky Westfall, Brazil, and is a senior at Northview High School.

The benefit will help with medical expenses. At 2 p.m., Casino Night will begin, including several games, drawings, raffles and door prizes.

A fish fry has been scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. Cost is $5.

Cash donations will also be accepted.

Ice Cream!

Otter Creek Christian Church will conduct an Ice Cream Social Saturday, Sept. 8, from 4-8 p.m., at the church, 6298 N. Crow St., Brazil, two miles north of Cloverland.

Other items on the menu will include hot dogs and other dishes, in addition to several desserts.

Entertainment will be provided by the Stanley Family Gospel Singers. A moonwalk bouncing event is also scheduled for children. For further information, call 446-4007.

Historical Society Meeting

The Clay County Historical Society will meet Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum.

The guest speaker will be Sally Weatherston, a Vigo County Public Library storyteller, who will present, "Women of the Wabash and the Battle of Fort Harrison."

The public is invited and welcome to attend the meeting.

Health Fair

The Putnam County Senior Center will conduct a health fair Sept. 11, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Health screenings will be available, as will flu shots.

In addition, there will be a pulled pork barbecue luncheon and free Bingo games. There will also be cash drawings for $50, $100 and $200.

Meeting Set

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a meeting Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.
