The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Roses

The Brazil Lions Club is conducting its annual rose sale through Oct. 7.

Roses are being sold to raise funds to support community projects.

Roses are in a vase and are $18 per dozen. They are available in several colors (red and whatever other color we receive. Attempts to honor requests will be made, but there is no guarantee.

Roses will be picked up or delivered Oct. 19.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to take veterans in the community to the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, or to one of their Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

Those interested are encouraged to contact Michael R. Holland, Clay County Veterans Service Office, at 448-9015.

Cub Scout Notice

Cub Scout Pack 45 meets regularly on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m., at the Family Worship Center, located on County Road 425 West.

Literacy Program

Adults who cannot read or would like to improve their reading are invited to visit private tutors through the Clay County Adult Literacy Program.

The program is free and is set up at the Brazil Public Library, 204 N. Walnut St., Brazil.

For more information regarding the program, call 446-1331. A tutor will contact those calling.

Historical Society Meeting

The Clay County Historical Society will meet Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum.

The guest speaker will be Sally Weatherston, a Vigo County Public Library storyteller, who will present, "Women of the Wabash and the Battle of Fort Harrison."

The public is invited and welcome to attend the meeting.

Health Fair

The Putnam County Senior Center will conduct a health fair Sept. 11, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Health screenings will be available, as will flu shots.

In addition, there will be a pulled pork barbecue luncheon and free Bingo games.

There will also be cash drawings for $50, $100 and $200.

Meeting Set

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a meeting Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Annual Dinner

The annual 9-11 Law enforcement dinner will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11, at noon, at East Side Christian Church, 400 Church St., Brazil.

The dinner will consist of ham and beans.

The event is for firefighters, and other law enforcement officials.

Meeting Schedule

The Jackson Township Elementary School Public Law 221 Committee will meet at 2:35 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the elementary school, 1860 E. CR 600 N., Brazil.

Park Board To Meet

A special meeting of the Brazil Parks and Recreation Board will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Pancakes!

House of Hope, 5525 W. United States 40, Brazil, will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday, Sept. 15, from 8 a.m.-noon.

Cost is a $5 donation per person served.

The pancake batter will be provided by IHOP.

Platters will also include eggs, sausage, coffee, juice, milk and pastries.

All donations will go toward the needs of the ministry.

Open House

Weight Watchers, located at Meadows Shopping Center, Terre Haute, is hosting a Lose for Good Open House Saturday, Sept. 15, from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to local food banks.

The open house will include refreshments, zumba and yoga instructors available and a regular meeting, as well as a special panel of people who have lost weight, who will explain how they did it.

Fun With Fishing!

The Brazil City Parks and Recreation Department will host the 8th Annual Fishing Fun Day this Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9-11 a.m. The event will take place in Craig Park in Brazil.

The event is free to all kids ages 16-and-under and to adults ages 66-and-over. Adults age 17 to 65 may fish if they have a current Indiana fishing license. All kids 10-and-under must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m.

Pork Chops!

The Fontanet Action Community Team will sponsor a pork chop dinner Saturday, Sept. 15.

The event will take place from 3-7:30 p.m., at the Fontanet Community Center.

There is no cost to attend the dinner, but donations will be accepted.
