GREENCASTLE -- The Northview boys' soccer team put together a strong, complete game effort in knocking off Greencastle on the road by a 4-0 score Saturday afternoon.
The Knights got on the board five minutes into the game as Derek Snyder was fouled inside the penalty box and Mark Underwood put the penalty kick into the net for a quick 1-0 advantage. The second goal came just past the halfway point for the Knights as Underwood crossed a pass into Mitch Thomas for a header and a 2-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Chandler Reeves found the net off an assist from Underwood 15 minutes in and the final score came off another penalty kick. KJ Thomas was fouled in the penalty area and Zach Rodgers scored off the kick to complete the scoring.
"It all came together. This win is great! It's really exciting to watch our team play. Now, we've got a result that shows what we're capable of," coach Dustin Jorgensen said. "I'm really happy for Matt Malone, Zach Rodgers, the rest of the seniors, and the team in general. Everyone has worked so hard to get to this point. Zach has taken a leadership role and worked really hard during the offseason to get this team in shape and on the same page. To see him score that penalty and beat a quality team was awesome."
Trey Boor had three shots on goal for the Knights with Underwood tallying a goal and two assists on four shots. Antoney Bryan had two shots for the Knights. Malone had eight saves in goal for Northview.
"Malone has been training hard since last season. He went to some camps and did a lot of work. He's been playing well, but to get a shut out, on the road, against a good team, that's cool," Jorgensen said. "I'm glad this team has bought into the system we're playing. We need to keep this momentum going into our two conference games this week. If we get results like this, we'll be really happy."
Results from the girls' contest against Greencastle were not reported at presstime.
The Northview boys travel to Edgewood on Thursday evening for a boy/girl doubleheader while the girls host Monrovia today at 5 p.m.
