After a while, it needed upgrades.
And that is exactly what happened.
On Monday, officials with Northview High School and Riddell National Bank introduced the upgrades to the sign, which sits in front of the high school off State Road 340.
"The initial sign was worn out," former Northview Principal Lynn Romas said.
The sign was originally purchased with financial support from Riddell National Bank and the Northview Knight Boosters in the early 90s.
However, bulbs on the sign were not functioning properly. In addition, NHS Assistant Principal Deb Zimmerman said it would cost more to replace the existing bulbs than it would be to replace the entire sign.
According to Zimmerman, shortly before Romas retired, he contacted Riddell National Bank regarding the sign. Bank President Mike Lawson and Senior Vice President Steve Kidwell both agreed to remain as sign sponsors and funded the upgrades.
Zimmerman said the brick fixture the sign sits on is the only piece that did not change.
New features on the sign included different colored LED lights, which Zimmerman can change through her desk computer.
She added there are approximately several different items she can place on the sign.
