ELLETTSVILLE -- Northview's soccer teams each gained a Western Indiana Conference road win on Thursday night at Edgewood.
The Northview boys secured a 2-1 conference win on the road at Edgewood Thursday evening, scoring in each half to gain the victory.
Derek Snyder gave the Knights the only goal of the first half to start the contest on the right foot for Northview.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Knights added an insurance goal as Mark Underwood fed a great pass through the Mustang defense to Zach Rodgers, who put the ball in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Edgewood wasn't done however and found its goal with under three minutes left in the game. The Knights' defense buckled down and kept Edgewood from gaining the equalizer.
"It is nice to have this winning momentum," Northview coach Dustin Jorgensen said. "We almost gave this one away at the end. We have to play the full 80 minutes. We are getting better and better, we just have to be more aware of time management and closing out games properly. Now, we focus on Brown County. If we can win there, we are going to feel really good going into Tuesday's rescheduled match at Crawfordsville. I'm so proud of these guys. They have believed that we could win, believed we are getting better, and now, it's paying off."
The Knights got eight saves in net from Matt Malone and the offense was led by Snyder, who had five shots. KJ Thomas, Rodgers, Sean Brockman and Underwood each had a shot.
The Northview girls held off a second half rally by Edgewood to gain a 3-2 victory. The Knights led 1-0 at halftime and both teams scored twice in the second half.
No other results were reported at press time.
Both teams are in action today at Brown County beginning at 11 a.m.
