Both Clay City, Northview earn wins

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Clay City Imperial Regiment stole the show Saturday.

Competing in the Spirit of Central Invitational, at Lawrence Central High School, Clay City placed first in Class D competition with a score of 48.05.

The Imperial Regiment also won Best Music, Best Visual, Best General Effect, Best Auxiliary and Best Percussion.

Triton Central and Elwood tied for second at 45.25, followed by Tri-Central with a 44.70 and Shortridge with a 40.10.

In Class C action, Edgewood was the champion with a score of 58.90, while Greenwood won the Class B competition with a score of 66.50.

Avon won the Class A competition with a tally of 74.35.

The Northview Marching Knights opened their 2012 season in the Red Pride Marching Invitational at Plainfield, also coming away with a first-place finish.

Competing in Class B, the Knights scored a 67.60 to win the invitational.

New Palestine finished second with a 62.35, followed by Zionsville with a 62.15 and Terre Haute South with a 55.40.

Beech Grove won the Class Competition with a 59.65, while Indianapolis Pike won Class A with a 60.25.

Both Clay City and Northview will take part in the Avon Meijer Invitational Saturday.

Competing in Class D, the Imperial Regiment will take the field at 4 p.m. Orleans, the only other Class D band in competition, will perform at 4:13 p.m.

Awards for Class D and Class C will take place following a performance by Center Grove, scheduled for 5:44 p.m.

The Marching Knights -- competing in Class B -- will perform at 7:37 p.m.

Other Class B bands performing include Pendleton Heights (6:58 p.m.), Greenfield-Central (7:11 p.m.), Plainfield (7:24 p.m.) and Jasper (7:50 p.m.)

Class B awards will be handed out following Jasper's performance.

Cost to attend the event is $6 for adults and $4 for students/seniors.
