TERRE HAUTE -- The Clay-Owen-Vigo Solid Waste District will host 2012 Tox Away Day and White Goods Collection Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Vigo County Fairgrounds.
The event was set up for residential household hazardous waste and household appliances.
It is a one-day event open to all residents of the three counties.
Acceptable items include oil-based paint, solvents, stains, varnishes, thinners, preservatives, glues/adhesives, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, fertilizers, insecticides, engine cleaners, pet care products, deodorizers, disinfectants, drain/oven cleaners, turpentine, polishes, aerosol cans, degreasers, fungicides, gasoline, photographic chemicals, mercury, fluorescent bulbs, refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, freezers, washers/dryers, stoves, anti-freeze, motor oil and oil filters.
Unacceptable items include latex paint, agribusiness, batteries, tires, fire extinguishers, commercial waste, industrial waste, gas cylinders and smoke detectors.
A drive-up system will be used and residents must remain in their vehicles.
All vehicles will be directed to the sorting area to be unloaded after they are determined to be a resident of Clay, Owen or Vigo counties.
Proof of residency will be required.
