TERRE HAUTE -- The Open Door Christian Bookstore will host a community food drive in cooperation with the Salvation Army during Christian Store Week Sept. 28-Oct. 8.
Additionally, a special enhanced CD compilation will be available for a donation to raise awareness of the need for food assistance and support World Vision U.S. food and anti-poverty programs.
"Because of the continuing recession and continued high unemployment, there is a growing need for local families and children to rely on community support," Open Door representative Ron Forester said. "We want to help meet that need.
Government agencies report one in five U.S. children live in poverty and the rate of families who are "food insecure," has risen 30 percent since 2006, totaling more than 17 million families.
The 18-title CD, "Lift Up: Artists and Authors Unite to Feed America's Hungry Children," features Christian songs, Bible, books and more.
Musicians, artists, authors, retailers and publishers have donated royalties and all fees and profits, plus provided in-kind services, so 100 percent of donations are available for program support.
As part of the campaign, the Open Door will host author appearances, games and other events.
