Bake Sale!

The American Legion Post 2 Auxiliary will host a bake sale at the Farmer's Flea Market Saturday, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., inside the Davis Building.

Heavy Trash Notice

The Brazil City Garage recently notified The Brazil Times that throughout the month of October, heavy trash pickup will take place.

The following will be days for routes:

* Monday route will be Oct. 5,

* Tuesday route will be Oct. 5,

* Wednesday route will be Oct. 19, and

* Thursday route will be Oct. 26.

Girl Scout Notice

All girls in grades kindergarten through senior year are encouraged to join the Girl Scouts.

Trash Notice

The Brazil City Garage recently notified The Brazil Times it will be a day behind on trash pickup during the week of Oct. 8.

The Brazil Lions Club is conducting its annual rose sale through Oct. 7.

Roses are being sold to raise funds to support community projects.

Roses are in a vase and are $18 per dozen.

They are available in several colors (red and whatever other color we receive.

Attempts to honor requests will be made, but there is no guarantee.

The organization will also have a booth at the Popcorn Festival of Clay County where it will sell roses, in addition to collecting old pairs of glasses and hearing aids.

Roses will be picked up or delivered Oct. 19.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to take veterans in the community to the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, or to one of their Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

Those interested are encouraged to contact Michael R. Holland, Clay County Veterans Service Office, at 448-9015.

Cub Scout Notice

Cub Scout Pack 45 meets regularly on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m., at the Family Worship Center, located on County Road 425 West.

Literacy Program

Adults who cannot read or would like to improve their reading are invited to visit private tutors through the Clay County Adult Literacy Program.

The program is free and is set up at the Brazil Public Library, 204 N. Walnut St., Brazil.

A tutor will contact those calling.

International Literacy Month is observed throughout the world in communities and various countries.

The Clay County Adult Literacy Program -- a lifetime learning center -- will also celebrate literacy, with activities including coordinating efforts to solicit volunteer tutors and perspective students, tutor and student recognition.

Anyone who knows anyone in need of help reading or anyone who would like to volunteer should contact 446-1331.

Scheduled Meetings

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

* Nov. 20 -- At the Posey Township Fire House.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Library will conduct a book sale Sept. 20-22, and Sept. 27-29, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The event will take place in the garage across the street from the library.

Many different books will be available.

Dinner Time!

The Lady Volunteers of Staunton will conduct a dinner Friday, Sept. 21, from 4-7 p.m., at the Staunton Community Center.

The menu will consist of beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, dinner rolls, coffee, tea and lemonade.

Desserts will also be available at an additional cost of $1 each.

Cost to attend the event is $9 for adults and $5 for children 10-under.

Coffee Talk

The Rotary Club of Brazil will host Coffee and Club Talk Friday, Sept. 21, from 6-7 p.m., at the Brazil Coffee Grounds Bakery and Coffee Shop.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting.

The topic of the meeting will be "New Generations."

The first regular cup of coffee will be free courtesy of the Rotary Club of Brazil.

Show Time!

The Community Theatre of Clay County will present, "Into the Woods," Friday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 22.

The shows will include a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performances at 7:15.

Tickets are $25 for individual shows. Season tickets are $100 each and include four dinner shows and one dessert show.

The Brazil Kiwanis will host a pancake breakfast Saturday, Sept. 22, from 7 a.m.-noon, at the V.F.W. Post No. 1127, 303 S. Depot St., Brazil.

Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 3-12. Children 3-under will be admitted free.

All proceeds will benefit the Riley Children's Hospital.

The annual K-Day Parade will take place Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 1 p.m.

'Family Bash'

The Vigo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will conduct "Family Bash on the Wabash," Sept. 22, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The event will include a silent auction, food, children's activities, entertainment and more.

"Family Bash on the Wabash," is open to the public to promote awareness of Vigo County's CASA mission, "being a powerful voice in a child's life through dedicated volunteers like you."

The Clay County Senior Center, 120 S. Franklin St., Brazil, will host a Euchre Tournament Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Those interested in competing will have to pay $5 to enter the tourney. All proceeds will go to the senior center van.

Snacks will be offered during the tournament and an Ice Cream Social will take place following the event.

The Lucky Euchre Club is sponsoring the event.

Fall Festival!

The Center Point Fall Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 22, at 4:30 p.m.

Several events will take place throughout the evening. The festival will conclude with a street dance with music provided by DJ Milo Miller.

A meal will take place. Freewill donations will be accepted for the meal.

Dinner And Entertainment!

The Little Historic Chapel in Carbon will conduct a pitch-in dinner Saturday, Sept. 22.

The dinner is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Entertainment will be provided by P-150.

Banking Presentation

The Brazil Public Library is inviting the community to hear representatives from First Financial Bank present, "Online Banking Without Fear," Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 10:30 a.m.

Chamber To Meet

The Clay County Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday, Sept. 25, at noon, at the Renaissance Reception and Conference Center, 101 W. National Ave., Brazil.

The guest speaker will be Bryan Jackson of Tech Haute, who will discuss the benefits of social media.

Cost is $10 per person, payable at the door.

Open House

Cumberland Academy will have an open house Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 5:30-7 p.m. Students and families are invited to meet teachers and staff at Cumberland Academy. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded.

Craft Time!

The Brazil Public Library is inviting youth ages 7-under to a make and take craft event Thursday, Sept. 27.

Youth may stop in between the hours of 6-7 p.m., to make and take a pumpkin wind sock craft.

The event is free and open to the public.

Chicken Dinner!

The Northview High School Band Boosters will host Nelson's Famous Barbecue Chicken Friday, Sept. 28, from 4-7 p.m., prior to the NHS varsity football game.

Dinner seating will be available on the school parking lot or in the school cafeteria.

Cost will be $8.50, which will include one-half of a barbecued chicken, baked beans, potato salad, rolls and a drink.

Golf Scramble

The Van Buren Elementary School fifth-grade golf scramble will take place Sept. 29, at the Forest Park Golf Course.

Cost will be $50 per person, which will cover the cost of golf, lunch, drinks and a T-shirt.

Lunch will begin at noon, with a shotgun start set for 1 p.m.

Money raised from the tournament will be raised for the students to go on field trips, a swell as the cost for end of year graduation and other activities.

Food Giveaway

The Church of our Lord Jesus will conduct a food giveaway Saturday, Sept. 29, from 1-3 p.m.

The event will take place at the church, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil.

'Night At The Museum'

Brazil Main Street will host Night at the Museum on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 6-9 p.m., at the Clay County Historical Society Museum. The event will feature reinactments of local historical figures and a tour of the museum itself.

The event will also have a showing of the movie "Night at the Museum" outside once the sun has set. Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for the movie. Popcorn will be served. The event is free and open to everyone.

Local Life Chain

The Brazil Life Chain will take place Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m.

The event is an international hour of prayer for the nation and a peaceful, prayerful public witness on behalf of the unborn at risk of abortion.

Life Chain participants will stand and pray on sidewalks of major roadways in cities across the nation and Canada, holding printed signs.

A gathering will be at the intersection of United States 40 and Alabama Street, Brazil.

Meeting Rescheduled

The Harmony Town Council will meet Tuesday, Oct. 9, instead of Tuesday, Oct. 2, due to other town business.

Meetings take place at the Harmony Community Center at 7 p.m.

Low Vision Expo

The third Low Vision Expo, in honor of White Cane Day, will take place at the V.F.W. Post 1127, 303 S. Depot St., Brazil, Oct. 17.

The event, hosted by the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the WILL Center, will begin at 10:30 a.m., and is open to the public.

Several speakers will be on hand, including a mobility trainer, eye specialist, members of Easter Seals, local fire department officials and more.

Refreshments will be provided.

Bake Sale

The Sisters of Providence will conduct a bake sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, in the hallway outside of the Gift Shop at Providence Center, located at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Cookies, pies, breads, candy, jellies, cakes and more will be available.

All proceeds will benefit the sisters' ministries.

The Gift Shop will also be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
