Northview honored eight senior boys' soccer players with a victory on Thursday night, claiming a 3-0 win over South Vermillion.
Northview's Antoney Bryan, Mark Underwood, Sean Brockman, Thomas and Zach Rodgers were a constant presence deep in South Vermillion's zone. Underwood narrowly missed a header off a corner kick by Trey Boor early in the game.
"It's been one of those things the last coupe of games, we haven't quite played up to our potential. Tonight, we had the opportunities again," Northview coach Dustin Jorgensen said. "We'd still like to capitalize on more of them. We had a lot of chances that were right to the goalie and he made a lot of good saves. It's nice to win, it feels good."
The second goal came with 31 minutes remaining in the half as Sean Brockman corralled a ball and side stepped a defender to create space. The senior drilled a shot back across the net inside the post for a 2-0 Knights' lead.
Northview kept up the pressure as Underwood passed to Derek Snyder, whose header was saved by the Wildcats' keeper.
With time dwindling before the half, an Underwood header went just wide of the net. The final shot of the first half came from Snow, which sailed just wide.
The second half featured more of the same style of play from the Knights as the third goal came off a penalty kick for Northview's usual starting goalkeeper. Matt Malone took the shot and scored for the eventual 3-0 winner.
"It was nice on senior night to get all of them in to play, which was kind of a goal," Jorgensen said. "They all got some playing time and having Matt Malone play in the field and get a goal was pretty cool."
Rodgers, Brockman, Kaleb Baker, Kris Snow, Steven Onken, Malone, Guy Wiss and Stephen Snow were honored prior to the game.
The Knights improved to 4-8-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. Northview hosts Terre Haute South on Tuesday.
