Now members of Habitat for Humanity of Clay County can continue to pursue money to build a new home for a needy family.
On Tuesday, members of Habitat for Humanity and representatives from the City of Brazil gathered at the lot, located at 703 S. Chicago St., Brazil.
The local Habitat organization secured the lot -- for its eighth home in Clay County -- through negotiations with city officials.
"The city donated the lot," Habitat for Humanity of Clay County Vice President Rogene Morge said.
The donation took place in April 2012.
Habitat officials told The Brazil Times a family for the home would be selected early next year and plans to break ground in the spring.
Habitat for Humanity of Clay County dedicated its seventh home to Mary Ann Hofmann and family earlier this year.
Throughout the year, Habitat for Humanity of Clay County conducts three fundraisers, including a Fish Fry in April, as well as a yard sale and cruise-in -- both of which take place in July.
In addition, earlier this year, the Duke Energy Foundation through its Indiana Regional Council and local Duke District Manager Rick Burger, donated $10,000 to the local organization.
