VINCENNES -- Northview's defense held up its end of the bargain on the long road trip to Vincennes Lincoln Friday evening. However, the offense turned the ball over four times, two of them resulting in touchdowns, in a 22-3 loss to the Alices.

Facing a Vincennes squad that kept the ball predominantly on the ground in the Wishbone-style offense, the Knights held the home team to just 52 yards on 23 carries while dominating the time of possession in the game.

Northview halted Vincennes on its opening possession of the game deep in the Alices' territory, forcing a punt. The resulting good field position aided the Knights in opening the scoring.

The Knights started on offense at midfield and got a 20-yard pass from Tucker Stewart to Tyler Rector down to the 36-yard line. Jesse Miller and Stewart combined to run the ball on the next five plays down to the Alices' 13-yard line. However, a fumble slowed the drive and forced Trey Boor to kick a 27-yard field goal for an early Knights' lead.

Vincennes would miss a 48-yard field goal by Kyle Richardville on its next possession, but the Knights couldn't capitalize.

A bad snap cost the Knights 25 yards on the drive and pinned the offense at its own four-yard line and forced a punt. Vincennes would take over at its own 21-yard line and Richardville would make good on a 45-yard field goal to knot the game.

While Northview's defense was keeping the Alices from stringing together much of a drive, the Knights weren't able to move the ball past midfield.

Vincennes mounted a final drive before the half and while time appeared to run out following a 14-yard completion from Zane Bechman to Devin Lett. Officials put one second back on the clock and Richardville took advantage by booting a second 45-yard field goal to put his team up 6-3 at the half.

The second half was one to forget for the Northview offense as heavy rains came down early in the third period.

Northview's defense forced a fumble as Kelly Hawkins recovered at the Knights' 15-yard line. However, Stewart was intercepted on the second play of the drive as Chris Bouchie returned the pick 30 yards for the first touchdown of the game and a 12-3 lead.

The Knights next drive ended quickly on a fumble that was recovered by Bouchie and resulted in a 43-yard field goal by Richardville with 2:02 left in the third period.

Northview strung together a promising drive in answer to the Alices' score as Miller ripped off a 38-yard run as Northview moved the ball to the 13-yard line. However, Brandt Nowaskie stepped in front of a pass into the endzone by Stewart and rambled down the sideline for 100-yard score to put the game out of reach with 9:03 left.

The Knights (2-4 overall) host South Vermillion on Friday night.
