WEST TERRE HAUTE -- White Violet Farm Alpacas, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence, will join alpaca breeders across the United States and Canada in observance of the annual National Alpaca Farm Days open house from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
The program is free and open to the public.
Visitors will be able to see the Sisters of Providence herd of 53 alpacas up close and meet the animals' caretakers.
Also, there will be an opportunity to shop for alpaca yarn, socks and gloves, and handmade scarves and hats.
Visitors also will be able to enjoy spinning and weaving demonstrations with an opportunity to try out those techniques themselves.
In addition, there will be a children's area where there will be a celebration of an alpaca's birthday.
Providence Joseph turns 5 Sept. 30.
Homemade sugar cookies shaped like alpacas and a coloring page will be available.
Children may sing to Joseph who will be in a corral near the festivities.
