She was born July 22, 1922, in Terre Haute, to Clarence Joseph and Zelda Beatrice Dunbar Himmichhoeffer.
Mary graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1940, then attended St. Anthony's Hospital school of Nursing before graduating in 1943.
Mary never married and had children of her own, but she witnessed and cared for many who came into this world.
After a few years working with newborns, she went to Chicago for some extended training in pediatric work, and then cared for older children.
Her next and last nursing venture brought her to Clay County Hospital in Brazil, Ind., in 1950, where she remained until 1984.
She was a member of Annunciation Church in Brazil, as well as the Florence Nightengale Club and the Registered Nurses Club of Brazil.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother David Joseph Himmichhoeffer, sister Florena (Leon) Anders, sister Donna (Thomas) Kern, and niece Debbie Kern.
Survivors include sister Alma (Thomas) Peirson, Danville, Ill., seven nephews and four nieces.
Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Annunciation Church in Brazil, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Terre Haute.
Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m., Monday, at Moore Funeral Home, Brazil, with a rosary being said at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
