JASONVILLE -- The Clay City Eels placed third as a team in the boy's Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference meet on Saturday at Shakamak and the girls were fourth.

The host Lakers won the boy's meet led by Luke Sweet's winning time of 16:58.

Clay City was paced by Parker Ames, who took sixth overall in 17:32 with teammate Blake Cochran was 15 seconds back in eighth.

Eastern Greene was crowned the girl's team champion as Shakamak's Savannah Turner won the individual championship in 19:20 with Clay City's Kelsey Wright racing to a fourth-place in 20:55.

The Clay City junior high cross country teams capped a solid season over the weekend by competing in the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference Meet as the boys placed second in the eight-team field and the girls took fourth.

The boys were paced by a strong pack run with the top-three all finishing in the top-10 led by Caleb Cannon in seventh-place with a time of 13:13. Kyle Wolf was nine seconds back in eighth-place followed by Calvin Fry in 13:26 in ninth. The top-six runners for the Eels were all within 41 seconds of each other.

"As far as the boys go they were pretty strong all season going 7-2 and finishing third in the Shakamak Invitational and 12th at South Knox Invitational," coach Blane Crabb commented. "The top-seven ran as a pack all season including Saturday. The boys got a measure of revenge on Saturday against Eastern after falling to them by five points last Saturday at the Shakamak Invitational then beating them by a convincing 39 this week at the SWIAC."

A very young Clay City girls team was led by Alexis Laswell, who ran to a second-place finish in 13:52. She was followed by Elizabeth Duckwall in 27th position in 16:22 and Jenna Ream in 29th with a time of 16:31.

"I was quite pleased with both teams Saturday," Crabb said. "The girls improved considerably and had their best run of the season Saturday. They finished with a record of 3-6 and showed great potential for the future as eight of the 10 team members are in fifth or sixth grade including sixth-grader Alexis Laswell, who was the team's number one runner all season long."
