Heavy Trash Notice
The Brazil City Garage recently notified The Brazil Times that throughout the month of October, heavy trash pickup will take place.
The following will be days for routes:
* Monday route will be Oct. 5,
* Tuesday route will be Oct. 5,
* Wednesday route will be Oct. 19, and
* Thursday route will be Oct. 26.

The Brazil Lions Club is conducting its annual rose sale through Oct. 7.
Roses are being sold to raise funds to support community projects.
Roses are in a vase and are $18 per dozen. They are available in several colors (red and whatever other color we receive). Attempts to honor requests will be made, but there is no guarantee.
The organization will also have a booth at the Popcorn Festival of Clay County where it will sell roses in addition to collecting old pairs of glasses and hearing aids.
Roses will be picked up or delivered Oct. 19.

Volunteers are needed to take veterans in the community to the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, or to one of their Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

Cub Scout Notice
Cub Scout Pack 45 meets regularly on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m., at the Family Worship Center, located on County Road 425 West.

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

The deadline for Thanksgiving Basket applications is Oct. 19.
Applications may be picked up and dropped off at the Brazil Housing Authority, Department of Child Services, Hamilton Center, or at schools.

The Clay Community Skatepark Committee will conduct an all-you-can-eat Country Rhodes Dinner at the Popcorn Festival of Clay County Thursday, Oct. 4, from 4:30-7 p.m., at the Forest Park Pavilion.
Cost is $8.50 for adults and $5.50 for children 12-under.
All proceeds from the dinner will go toward the construction of the park.

The YMCA of Clay County will conduct a youth dance Friday, Oct. 5.
The dance is open to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students.

Local author Marjorie E. Hopkins will conduct a book signing event at the Open Door Christian Book Store, 3125 S. 3rd Place, Terre Haute, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Hopkins, a resident of Brazil, will be available to sign copies of her book, "Dying to Meet Him: Wit and Wisdom from a Funeral Director's Wife."
Due to a scheduling conflict, the Clay County Humane Shelter will conduct its final shot clinic of the year Saturday, Oct. 27, from 1-4 p.m., at the Forest Park Pavilion.
All shots will be available and will cost $10, including rabies shots, for both cats and dogs.
In addition, shelter representatives said they would have spay-neuter vouchers at a cost of $20 each.

Choral Booster Dinner
The Knights Choral Boosters will host their third Fall Spaghetti Dinner and fall Choral Showcase Concert Sunday, Oct. 7, in the Northview High School Cafeteria.
Dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with the concert beginning at 2:30.
Pre-sale tickets are available through the Knight Choral Boosters. Adult tickets are $6 and children tickets are $4. Tickets will cost an additional $2 at the door.
All proceeds from the performances and dinner go to benefit the choirs at Northview High School and North Clay Middle School.

Local Life Chain
The Brazil Life Chain will take place Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m.
The event is an international hour of prayer for the nation and a peaceful, prayerful public witness on behalf of the unborn at risk of abortion.
Life Chain participants will stand and pray on sidewalks of major roadways in cities across the nation and Canada, holding printed signs.
A gathering will be at the intersection of United States 40 and Alabama Street, Brazil.

Early voting for the 2012 election will begin in October.
The following is a list of times and dates for early voting, as provided by the Clay County Election Office:
* Oct. 9-26 (Monday through Friday), 8 a.m.-noon, and 1-4 p.m.,
* Oct. 29-Nov. 2 (Monday through Friday), 8 a.m.-noon, and 1-6 p.m.,
* Saturday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and
* Monday, Nov. 5 (the last day for early voting), 8 a.m.-noon.
All early voting may take place at the Clay County Election Office, located on the second floor of the Clay County Courthouse (room 211).
Voter registration must be postmarked no later than Oct. 9, 2012. Online (at IndianaVoters.com) must be submitted by 11:59 p.m., Oct. 9, 2012.
Absentee applications are due by Oct. 29, 2012.
Traveling Board applications are due by noon, Nov. 5, 2012.
The Harmony Town Council will meet Tuesday, Oct. 9, instead of Tuesday, Oct. 2, due to other town business.
Meetings take place at the Harmony Community Center at 7 p.m.
SALINE CITY -- The second Swing for a Cure Co-Ed Softball Tournament will take place Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Saline City Softball Diamond.
If there are too many teams signed up, games will also be played Sunday, Oct. 14.
Cost is $125 per team.
Cost includes food, drinks, raffle items, T-shirts, and softball.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Relay For Life.

Low Vision Expo
The third Low Vision Expo, in honor of White Cane Day, will take place at the V.F.W. Post 1127, 303 S. Depot St., Brazil, Oct. 17.
The event, hosted by the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the WILL Center, will begin at 10:30 a.m., and is open to the public.
Several speakers will be on hand, including a mobility trainer, eye specialist, members of Easter Seals, local fire department officials and more.

Family Fun Night
The YMCA of Clay County, 225 E. Kruzan St., Brazil, will host its annual Y Fall Family Fun Night Saturday, Oct. 27, from 4-6 p.m.
The event is designed to be a "fun and safe way for families to celebrate fall."
It is open to all children, teens and adults in the community.
Admission is one non-perishable food item (or $1 per person). The food item will be donated to local food pantries.
