Merrill was born Aug. 27, 1930, the son of Wilmer and Etta (Huber) Buell. He was part of the Bowling Green High School graduating class of 1948. In 1950, Merrill enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. In 1952, he was discharged at the end of the war. Upon returning home, he began farming fulltime on his family's farm. Merrill farmed until his health forced him to retire.
Merrill attended Mount Zion Methodist Church in Bowling Green. He was a founding member of the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department. He was also actively involved in the Bowling Green Old Settler's organization, Clay County Farm Bureau and local politics, having served as Clay County Commiss-ioner.
Merrill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Rolland Buell and Max Buell, and sister Freeda Weber.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Roberta Buell, sons Michael Buell, Bowling Green, Lynn Buell and wife Melissa, Rockville, daughter Katrina Miller and husband J.D., Bowling Green, brother Dr. Forrest Buell, Clay City, sister Thelma Kennelly, Oregon, grandchildren Nathan, Justin, Aaron, Beau, Teddi, Ty Buell, Skyler, Colton and Dane Miller, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Service will be Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Zion cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, from 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
