Former teacher throws hat in ring for school board

Friday, October 12, 2012

Kevin Kumpf is running for the District 1 representative of the Clay Community Schools Board of Trustees.

Kumpf is a retired teacher who spent 39 years teaching in Clay Community Schools, both at Van Buren Elementary School and North Clay Middle School.

Kumpf feels he is qualified to be a member of the school board because of his many years in education. Kumpf attended parochial schools for 12 years before attending college for five years and entering the Clay Community Schools corporation as a teacher.

Kumpf decided to run for school board because he didn't like the direction the school corporation was going.

"I was always told, if you don't like the way something is going, vote it out or run for it," said Kumpf, "so I decided to run for the board."

Kumpf said he had a calling to go into education as a teacher, and now he has a calling to continue working in education with the school board.

Kumpf has been married for 18 years. He has two grown children and three that are currently in the Clay Community Schools system.

The election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 6.
