There are only a few weeks left to file a Homestead Verification with the Clay County Auditor's Office.
There are approximately 2,500 homesteads that have not been verified in Clay County.
The listing for taxpayers that still need to complete the process is on the homepage for Clay County at www.claycountyin.gov.
The list shows taxpayers who are receiving the Homestead Exemption at the present time but have not submitted the Homestead Verification form required by the state of Indiana.
Information required on the form are the last five digits of a Social Security number and the last five digits of a driver's license to verify residency in Clay County.
If the Homestead Verification paperwork is not received by Dec. 31, 2012, the Homestead will be removed from property, causing an increase in property tax on the parcel, effective 2012 pay 2013.
For further information, call the auditor's office at 448-9002.
